Staff Data Engineer

BD seeks a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and evolution of the data platform supporting AI initiatives in Connected Care. This hands-on technical leadership role combines software development, data architecture, and platform strategy to deliver scalable, governed data solutions for machine learning and analytics across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Own data architecture for AI workflows including warehouse, lake, and serving layers; set technical standards and long-term platform direction
• Design and implement data ingestion from product, operational, and clinical sources in batch, streaming, and CDC modes
• Design relational and analytical schemas; author complex SQL; manage dimensional models, incremental loads, and late-arriving data
• Establish data quality standards, negotiate data contracts with producing teams, and implement automated validation for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
• Define SLAs, instrument monitoring and alerting, lead incident response, and maintain HIPAA compliance with proper access controls and lineage tracking

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field
• 7+ years of data engineering with increasing technical ownership and end-to-end production pipeline responsibility
• Demonstrated architectural ownership beyond single team; ability to set standards and drive technical decisions
• Expert-level SQL skills including optimization, partitioning, window functions, and complex query authoring
• Production-scale experience with cloud data warehouse (Redshift preferred) and AWS data services (S3, Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, Athena)
• Python proficiency for pipeline code with strong software engineering practices (testing, code review, modular design, CI)
• Hands-on feature engineering experience for ML workflows, including point-in-time correctness and dataset validation
