Position Overview The Clinical Nurse Specialist-Educator, Oncology promotes excellence in nursing by serving as a key resource for nursing professional development and clinical education. The role collaborates with leadership and staff to assess educational needs and develop, implement, facilitate, and evaluate orientation, onboarding, competency assessment, professional development, and role transition programs for assigned departments and service areas. The Clinical Nurse Specialist-Educator also disseminates research and evidence-based practice findings and helps translate current oncology standards and best practices into clinical practice. Key ResponsibilitiesOrientation & Onboarding Design, implement, and evaluate unit-specific orientation and onboarding programs Review and continuously update orientation materials and curricula Integrate organizational standards, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety priorities into orientation programs Partner with leaders and frontline staff to ensure new team members develop the knowledge and skills required for safe, effective oncology care Competency Assessment Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate competency assessment programs for assigned units and service areas Review and revise competency assessments as clinical practices, technology, standards, and organizational needs change Use quality improvement and patient safety data to identify required competencies Select appropriate methods to evaluate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competency Ensure competency programs accurately reflect current oncology practice standards Professional Development Assess educational needs and identify practice gaps that can be addressed through education Develop and deliver education related to oncology clinical care, workflows, equipment, documentation, and patient management Develop educational programs for both individual learners and multidisciplinary audiences Mentor nursing staff in their professional development and career growth Support development of new graduate nurses, charge nurses, preceptors, and other nursing roles Collaborate with Professional Development and Nursing Education team members on organization-wide educational offerings Provide input regarding educational program resources, budgets, and cost-benefit considerations Evidence-Based Practice, Research & Quality Improvement Disseminate current research and evidence-based practice findings to relevant healthcare teams Participate in evaluation and implementation of evidence into clinical practice Promote national oncology nursing standards and recommendations from professional and specialty organizations Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and revise policies, procedures, and clinical protocols Participate in the development and implementation of programs designed to improve patient care Support evaluation and implementation of new products, equipment, and technologies Participate in unit-based committees, staff meetings, clinic committees, and other organizational groups Role Development & Clinical Partnership Facilitate learning experiences for nursing students, medical residents, and other learners as appropriate Partner with unit managers, staff nurses, and other clinical leaders to support professional role development Act as a clinical resource and educator for oncology nursing staff Identify emerging educational and professional development needs Maintain and advance expertise in oncology nursing, education, and professional development Organizational Leadership Serve as a change agent supporting hospital-wide initiatives Promote organizational commitments to safety, equity, diversity and inclusion, teamwork, innovation, and excellence Participate in appropriate hospital committees and advisory groups Support Cancer Service Line Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation requirements by demonstrating compliance with applicable Oncology Nursing Credentials Standards Model professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and excellence in nursing practice What You’ll BringRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Washington Minimum 3 years of relevant nursing experience Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Current certification in an oncology clinical specialty Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Nursing or related field Experience in both ambulatory and inpatient oncology settings Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification Nursing Professional Development (NPD) certification Experience in nursing professional development or clinical education Experience designing and evaluating nursing curricula and competency programs Experience implementing evidence-based practice and clinical research findings Skills & Expertise Thorough knowledge of oncology nursing protocols, procedures, standards, and best practices Strong understanding of nursing education principles and adult learning theory Ability to assess educational needs and design effective curricula Expertise in competency assessment and evaluation Knowledge of curriculum development and change management Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and research implementation Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills Ability to effectively facilitate both small-group and large-group learning Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams Excellent organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands Strong initiative and ability to work
