Medical Receptionist — Part Time | Nurture Pediatrics | Smyrna, TN Join a team that loves the person in front of them. Nurture Pediatrics is seeking a friendly, organized, and dependable Medical Receptionist to join our pediatric practice in Smyrna, Tennessee on a part-time basis. This is a one-day-per-week position — Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM — and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for consistent, meaningful part-time work in a pediatric healthcare setting. This position is often the first impression families have of our office, and we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys providing excellent customer service while helping create a positive experience for children and parents. Position Summary The Medical Receptionist is responsible for managing front desk operations, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and providing exceptional customer service to families. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Schedule: Thursday | 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Smyrna, TN | In-Person This is a part-time, one-day-per-week position. Consistent Thursday availability is required. Key Responsibilities Patient Reception & Customer Service Welcome patients and families in a friendly and professional manner Check patients in and out for appointments Verify patient demographics and contact information Answer incoming phone calls and assist with patient inquiries Respond to patient messages and appointment requests Maintain a positive and professional front office environment Scheduling Schedule well visits, sick visits, behavioral visits, nurse visits, and follow-up appointments Assist families with appointment changes and cancellations Follow scheduling guidelines and provider preferences Manage appointment confirmations and no-show follow-up procedures Insurance & Payment Processing Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to patient check-in Identify copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and patient balances Collect payments at the time of service Process self-pay accounts according to office policies Assist with TennCare PCP change processes when needed Administrative Responsibilities Scan and upload documents into the electronic medical record Process school, sports, daycare, and other patient forms Manage patient portal requests and communication Maintain accurate patient records Complete opening and closing front office duties as assigned Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience Strong computer and data-entry skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Professional, dependable, and team-oriented attitude Consistent Thursday availability from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM — required Preferred Previous medical office or pediatric office experience Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) Insurance verification experience Medical receptionist or healthcare customer service experience Spanish language proficiency Skills & Competencies Successful candidates will demonstrate: Exceptional customer service skills Attention to detail — particularly in insurance verification and data entry Professional phone etiquette Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities Reliability and punctuality Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance Who We Are Everything we do at Nurture Pediatrics is guided by four core values that are not aspirational statements — they are how we operate every single day: Love the Person in Front of You Take the Time to Listen Serve Joyfully Work as a Team Toward a Common Goal of Nurturing Families and Staff One day a week still matters here.
