Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Urgent Care

This contract, on-site role within the Medical Practice industry offers an opportunity to deliver high-quality, timely medical care in a fast-paced urgent care setting, serving patients with a wide range of acute and non-life-threatening conditions.

As a Locum Urgent Care Physician, you will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with illnesses and injuries, perform procedures as needed, and coordinate follow-up care when appropriate. This Associate-level contract role is ideal for licensed physicians seeking flexible engagement while maintaining a strong clinical focus and patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries in an urgent care setting
• Perform comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
• Diagnose conditions and develop appropriate, evidence-based treatment plans
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests such as laboratory work and imaging
• Perform minor procedures including suturing, abscess drainage, and splinting as needed
• Prescribe medications and provide patient education on treatment and self-care
• Determine appropriate disposition, including discharge, referral, or transfer to a higher level of care
• Document patient encounters accurately and in compliance with regulatory and billing standards
• Collaborate with nursing staff, physician assistants, and support teams to ensure efficient patient flow
• Adhere to clinic protocols, infection control standards, and patient safety guidelines

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
• Current, unrestricted medical license in the State of Louisiana
• Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine preferred
• Prior experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or ambulatory primary care settings
• Current DEA registration and active BLS certification
• Strong clinical judgment, diagnostic skills, and ability to manage multiple patients efficiently
• Excellent communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required

Rotating Schedule: 3x 12-hour shifts per week (7:45a-8:15p)

No call requirement

Shifts available at multiple facilities

Patient Volume: 45 per shift

EMR: Cerner

Must be board-certified or board-eligible

Additional Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
