Position Overview
Central Maine Healthcare is seeking an Endocrinologist to join its team serving the Central Maine region. The Endocrinologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with disorders of the endocrine system. The physician provides comprehensive care for patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, obesity, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, and other hormonal conditions. The Endocrinologist collaborates with primary care providers, specialists, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

Central Maine Healthcare (CMH), a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving approximately 400,000 residents across central, western, and midcoast Maine through a network of more than 40 primary and specialty care locations. The system includes Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston, a 250-bed, not-for-profit regional referral hospital that is home to the region's only Cancer Care Center, an orthopedic ambulatory surgery center, and the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute. CMMC also serves as the central Maine base for LifeFlight of Maine, the state's only medical helicopter service.
CMH also includes Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital, two 25-bed critical access hospitals that provide essential care to Maine's rural communities.
As part of its commitment to healthcare education and workforce development, CMH is home to the Maine College of Health Professions, Maine's first nursing and medical imaging school. Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Manage acute and chronic endocrine conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings as applicable.
Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic test results.
Prescribe medications and monitor treatment effectiveness.
Provide ongoing disease management and preventive care recommendations.
Diabetes Management
Diagnose and manage Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes.
Oversee insulin therapy, insulin pump management, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems.
Address diabetes-related complications and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
Educate patients on diabetes self-management, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modification.
Specialty Endocrine Care
Diagnose and treat thyroid disorders, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, and thyroid cancer.
Manage osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases.
Evaluate and treat adrenal, pituitary, and parathyroid disorders.
Assess and manage obesity and related metabolic conditions.
Diagnose and treat reproductive and hormonal disorders, including hypogonadism and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Manage lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome when appropriate.
Collaboration and Care Coordination
Collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, oncologists, nephrologists, cardiologists, and other specialists.
Supervise and provide clinical guidance to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), nursing staff, and ancillary personnel as applicable.
Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and case reviews.
Coordinate referrals and transitions of care.
Documentation and Compliance
Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Complete consultation reports, treatment plans, and follow-up documentation.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree, with completion of an accredited Endocrinology fellowship.
Board Certified/Board Eligible in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism
J1/H-1B visa candidates accepted
