CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT

Status: Part Time : every other Sunday

Shift: 7am-3pm

Charge Nurse

Qualifications:

Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant for long-term care by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Previous experience in a geriatric long- term care facility preferred. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language required.

Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide the residents of the facility with routine daily nursing care in accordance with our established procedures and as may be directed by your supervisor.

Functions:

Ability to follow established performance standards and perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Ability to assist new employees in following established policies and procedures.

Ability to identify special resident problems and report them immediately to the Charge Nurse.

Ability to provide direct resident care as assigned. Ability to conduct resident rounds as assigned.

Ability to initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance from the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to attend staff meetings and at least 12 hours of in-service programs per year, as assigned.

Ability to assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the Nursing Unit

Ability to assume accountability for compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the Nursing Unit and within your span of control.

Ability to report unusual problems or incidents to the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to document incidents and/or unusual problems in accordance with facility procedures.

Ability to participate in resident care conferences and other facility meetings as assigned.

Ability to participate in the development of an individualized plan of resident care as assigned.

Ability to review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined.

Ability to participate in and receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty.

Ability to document in the nursing assistant's notes the care and treatment provided to the resident and the resident's response or lack of response to care provided. Ability to assess and document weights taken, meals eaten, toileting, etc.

Ability to report changes in resident condition to the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to perform basic nursing skills as assigned.

Ability to follow facility procedures for admission, discharge and transfer of residents.

Ability to inventory and mark resident's personal possessions as assigned.

Ability to listen to resident and family/sponsor complaints and report to Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to respond to resident calls promptly. This includes assuring the call system is within easy reach of the resident.

Ability to prepare residents for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, raise bed, position tables, place bibs, take to/from dining room, etc.).

Ability to perform after meal care (i.e., remove trays, clean resident's hands, face, clothing, take to bathroom etc.)

Ability to serve meal trays, assure proper diet is served and assist and/or feed residents as necessary: (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. shifts.)

Ability to remove trays.

Ability to pull up and put down side rails as assigned.

Ability to assist residents with Activities of Daily Living as necessary. Ability to assist residents with toileting as necessary and as assigned. Ability to keep incontinent residents dry and clean.

Ability to empty and record all urinary drainage units. Ability to assist in transporting resident as assigned. Ability to walk ambulatory residents.

Ability to complete tub baths, showers or bed baths as assigned.

Ability to assist residents with bathing as necessary and as assigned.

Ability to assist with lifting, turning, moving, positioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.

Ability to use a mechanical lift safely.

Ability to make sure all residents are offered nourishments as assigned.

Ability to report anything unusual about residents to the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to turn and reposition all bed and chair residents every two hours. Ability to provide proper skin care to residents.

Ability to accurately weigh residents and report and/or record weights taken.

Ability to restrain residents in chair/bed as instructed and in accordance with OBRA guidelines.

Ability to place bedpans, linen, washbasins and soiled linen in proper area.

Ability to consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, physicians, families/sponsors, consultant personnel and ancillary service providers.

Ability to cone to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.

Ability to accept assigned duties and changes in assignments in a cooperative manner.

Ability to observe all facility policies and procedures, including universal precautions, infection control, fire prevention and safety.

Ability to follow Resident's Rights policies at all times. This includes the ability to maintain the confidentiality of resident care information, knocking before entering the resident's room, providing all nursing care in privacy and treating all residents fairly and with kindness, dignity and respect.

Ability to assume accountability for data contained in the employees' handbook.

Ability to report all unsafe/hazardous conditions to the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Ability to perform other related duties as directed by the Charge Nurse or Director of Nursing.

Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of a mechanical device): Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Must possess sight/hearing or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.

Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

Requirements:

• Current Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant
• Previous Experience in a long-Term Care facility Preferred
• High school diploma preferred
• Ability to speak read and write English.
• Compliance with applicable health laws and regulations, including but not limited to those relating to COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.
• Special talents, such as crafts or ability to play a musical instrument preferred.
• High school diploma.
• Ability to speak read and write English.
