The district covers the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the Fresno office serves Calaveras, Tuolumne, Stanislaus, Mariposa, Merced, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and Inyo counties. The Bakersfield office serves Kern County and surrounding areas. Sacramento is a cultural and recreational hub, while Fresno is a rapidly growing city located in the fertile San Joaquin Valley. Units Affirmative Civil Enforcement : Administration of investigations and litigation involving healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, grant fraud, financial fraud, pharmaceutical diversion, wildlife recovery actions, and civil rights enforcement. Asset Recovery : Forfeiture of proceeds and instrumentality of crimes, enforcement of judgments, restitution for crime victims, collection of debts owed to the United States, and protection of U.S. interests in bankruptcy proceedings. Defense : Representation of the United States, federal agencies, and federal employees in employment‑discrimination actions, medical malpractice, personal injury, torts, Administrative Procedure Act cases, environmental statutes, Social Security, Medicare, federal programs, "Bivens" civil‑rights actions, and immigration actions. The selected applicant(s) will be based in either the Sacramento or Fresno office and will collaborate with other criminal and civil Assistant U.S. Attorneys in both locations, supported by a staff of paralegals, investigators, auditors, and other professionals. As you progress, responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and be an active member in good standing of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Ideal candidates have at least three to five years of experience litigating cases with substantial responsibility for discovery, trial, and appeals. Applicants should demonstrate quick analytical ability, the facility to precisely articulate critical issues, superior oral and written skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment. Excellent courtroom and communication skills, coupled with the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with attorneys, paralegals, support staff, and client agencies, are also required. Candidates must be able to function in a highly demanding environment and possess solid computer literacy, including experience with automated internet research, electronic court filing, and electronic e‑mail and word‑processing systems. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Salary Sacramento: $85,075 to $197,100 (includes 29.76% locality pay). Fresno: $77,135 to $180,986 (includes 17.65% locality pay). Travel & Relocation Travel will occasionally be required. Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
