Varsity Boys' Track Coach

Essential Responsibilities Organize, plan, and supervise all team practices, competitions, and related activities in accordance with MHSAA regulations, school district policies, and conference guidelines. Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that supports athlete skill development, performance enhancement, conditioning, and injury prevention. Instruct student-athletes in proper event-specific techniques, running mechanics, race strategy, and principles of good sportsmanship consistent with MHSAA expectations. Supervise student-athletes at all times during practices, meets, team travel, and school-sponsored events. Promote a team culture that emphasizes character, sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and fair play as outlined by MHSAA values. Maintain ongoing communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school personnel, and athletic administration. Ensure full compliance with MHSAA eligibility rules, season limitations, practice regulations, and contest guidelines. Support academic achievement and monitor student-athlete eligibility in cooperation with school academic policies. Manage program logistics including equipment, uniforms, and team inventory. Assist with scheduling, transportation coordination, and meet operations as assigned by the athletic director. Encourage participation in related athletic programs such as cross country when applicable. Maintain all required coaching certifications, including MHSAA-mandated rules meetings and district training requirements. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of track and field training principles, conditioning, and event competition structure. Ability to work effectively with high school-aged student-athletes. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and supervisory skills. Ability to pass required background checks and meet district hiring requirements. Completion of required MHSAA rules meeting or equivalent annual certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Preferred Prior coaching experience in track and field, cross country, or endurance-based athletics. Experience working with adolescent athletes in an educational or competitive sports setting. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
