Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Fungal Systems Biology, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering - UTK

The Trinh Laboratory in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions. We seek highly motivated, creative, and independent scientists to join an interdisciplinary research program at the interface of fungal biology, functional genomics, synthetic biology, and systems biology. Experience with Candida species is preferred but not required. Our laboratory pursues mechanistic studies and engineering approaches to fungal systems for applications in human health, sustainable biomanufacturing, and bioremediation. By integrating molecular biology, CRISPR technologies, functional genomics, systems and synthetic biology, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), we seek to uncover fundamental biological principles and translate them into biotechnological and therapeutic solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply CRISPR-based tools for genome engineering and functional genomics in fungi.

• Design and execute genome-wide, high-throughput genetic screens using automated workflows, and conduct multi-omics studies.

• Engineer fungal and microbial systems for biotechnological and therapeutic applications.

• Prepare progress reports and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• A strong track record of high-quality, peer-reviewed publications demonstrating scientific productivity and research excellence.

• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: fungal biology; molecular genetics; CRISPR genome engineering and functional genomics; genome-wide, high-throughput screening; laboratory automation; systems and synthetic biology; bioinformatics; computational biology; and/or applied artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML).

• Demonstrated ability to independently design, conduct, and publish innovative research while working effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including scientific writing and presentations.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation and Benefits

• Anticipated hiring range: $60,000-$80,000
