MRI Technologist

Job Summary 20K sign on bonus MRI Technologist for MGH Chelsea (outpatient). Mon/Wed/Fri 2:30-11:00pm + every other weekend 2:30-8:00pm. 2 tech model. Department closes on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Free on‑site parking for staff. Responsibilities Under general supervision, safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system. Prepare patients, position them, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing and display images. Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required. Show ability to rotate to MRI scanners across the assigned department as needed. Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered with each patient per Joint Commission guidelines. Perform routine outpatient exams with and without contrast, optimize scan parameters to maintain diagnostic quality. Manage MRI safety components for all exams, participate in clinical care coordination, and function as a final checkpoint prior to scanning for patient safety and protocol clarification. Insert IV catheters as needed and administer intravenous MR contrast agents using a MR‑compatible power injector; monitor for and respond to adverse reactions. Record all information regarding contrast injections in the electronic medical record. Perform point‑of‑care testing where applicable. Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and enforce safety policies. Identify hazardous system malfunctions, secure the area, and remove patients and personnel from the magnet bay during emergencies. Perform scheduled quality control procedures on the MRI scanner and related equipment, record QA results, and report any equipment‑related problems to the supervisor. Assist other department staff with scheduling, transporting patients, inventory, filing, and other duties as needed. Qualifications Certificate or diploma in medical imaging required. Associate’s degree preferred. MRI registered technologist with ARRT or ARMRIT credential obtained within the last year. Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.
