Food Service Worker (Full-time)

Summary These Food Service Worker positions are located within the Nutrition & Food Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System within VISN 1. These positions are Full-time at 40 hours per week at the West Roxbury VA Medical facility. Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Food Service Workers perform work requiring light to moderate physical effort. They may be required to perform heavy work such as scouring and scrubbing large cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. Work occurs in kitchen areas with hot liquids, sharp blades, hot surfaces, and extreme temperature changes. Duties Major duties and responsibilities include: Set up cafeteria lines and steam tables; serve food cafeteria style; break down and clean assigned area; return food to the kitchen; set up dining room tables; deliver meal trays to patients' bedsides; brew coffee; assemble and toss fresh fruit or salads; apportion other food items; make cold sandwiches and pack box lunches; work in kitchen functional areas such as food preparation, dish and pot washing, dry and refrigerated storage, and serving line; sort, wash, peel, and cut fresh fruits and vegetables; operate and break down equipment; perform heavy‑duty cleaning tasks; separate food waste and trash; remove inspection doors and perform preventive maintenance of dish machine; unload delivery trucks; store sanitized dishes and utensils; scrape, soak, scour, and scrub cooking utensils; move garbage cans; and perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 40 hours a week. Friday–Tuesday 11:30 am‑8:00 pm days off on Wednesday/Thursday. Wednesday–Sunday 6:30 am‑3:00 pm days off on Monday/Tuesday.
