Research Scientist, NGS Product Development

Position Overview The Research Scientist works individually and in collaboration with others on multiple projects of moderate to complex scope. The role involves planning projects and experiments, serving as a technical lead, independently making detailed observations, analysing data and interpreting results, and advancing projects from proof‑of‑concept to production environments. Responsibilities Assess and optimize nucleic acid extraction chemistries. Design and optimize next‑generation sequencing (NGS) assays. Analyse and interpret complex NGS data. Validate methodologies and support laboratory automation development. Prepare regulatory documentation and collaborate across functions to advance clinical diagnostics and precision medicine initiatives. Conduct bench‑level experiments, identify problems and discrepancies, and plan experimental design. Operate scientific instrumentation and notify appropriate personnel of any issues. Apply methods and technologies, suggest new techniques, and maintain knowledge of technological industry developments. Provide technical input and participate in project planning decisions. Prepare and provide information for scientific abstracts, conferences, project meetings, and publications. Generate, document, and communicate development plans for critical project aspects. Develop research plans, experimental outlines, write protocols, and perform laboratory experiments. Prepare detailed technical procedures, protocols, and reports. Evaluate impact of non‑conforming data, identify trends, and prepare written reports. Lead identification of areas for process improvements. Maintain lab notebooks in compliance with legal, ISO, and QSR requirements. Prepare reports summarizing experimental results and next steps for supervisors and technical teams. Present experimental results and defend scientific ideas at meetings. Exercise judgment within defined practices and policies for methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria. Act as a technical leader for moderate to complex projects. Promote an open, collaborative environment built on trust and teamwork. Assist in planning and recommending activities that prioritize organizational and departmental goals. Train and mentor research associates and effectively communicate with supervisors and group members. Apply experimental knowledge to new and valuable problems and make predictions based on a deep understanding of inputs and actions. Minimum Qualifications PhD or Master’s with 4 years of experience, or Bachelor’s with 6 years of experience in life sciences, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related field. 1+ years of experience in medical device/IVD, biotech, life science, or pharmaceutical industry. Demonstrated ability to apply molecular biology and/or biochemical techniques. Demonstrated understanding of GMP, ISO, and Quality Systems. Good knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or NGS and genomics. Basic knowledge of statistical and mathematical methods in biology/genetics/genomics, including experience with statistical software such as JMP. Proficient computer skills including Internet navigation, e‑mail usage, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience in medical device/IVD, biotech, life science, or pharmaceutical industry. Hands‑on experience with DNA extraction, quantification, and physical analysis. Experience with NGS‑based diagnostic assay development. Experience with R, Python, or other advanced data analysis tools. Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments. Good documentation practices. Hands‑on experience with DNA library construction and target enrichment for NGS platforms. Experience with cfDNA‑based assays and automation platforms. Familiarity with assay development, optimization, and validation processes. Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with R&D, bioinformatics, clinical operations, and quality teams. Knowledge of cancer biology, genetics, genomics, and/or epigenetics. Salary Salary Range: $105,000 – $150,000 Benefits Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, volunteering, and personal time.
