Phlebotomist

Job Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Key Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear, courteous manner. Demonstrate technique(s) using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physician's orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% correctness. Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples at the required temperature. Place samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately label, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Required Qualifications Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED; 2–4 years of experience. Certifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states. #J-18808-Ljbffr
