Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgeon
$200kDepartment of Veterans Affairs
Job Description
Job Description
Our organization is part of the Veterans Health Administration.
Recruitment Incentives and Student Loan Assistance
The Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery within our healthcare system is in search of a full-time academic Head and Neck Surgeon/Otolaryngologist. The ideal candidate will possess specialized training in head and neck surgical oncology as well as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, including expertise in microvascular free tissue transfer. Proficiency in DaVinci robotic transoral surgery of the pharynx is essential. Experience in facial trauma repair and post-Mohs reconstruction is a plus. The selected individual will also engage in a comprehensive range of ENT practices, including rhinology, laryngology, and basic otology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients within the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery field.
- Execute complex oncologic, reconstructive, and microvascular procedures, including robotic transoral surgeries.
- Deliver clinical care in rhinology, laryngology, and otology, and participate in on-call duties.
- Engage in teaching, supervision, and academic endeavors, including research and publication.
- Collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams focused on veteran-centered care.
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday to Friday; specific hours to be discussed with your supervisor.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required.
A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent qualification from an accredited medical or osteopathic institution is necessary. The degree must be from a school recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
A current, unrestricted medical or surgical license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, including the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Candidates must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program that qualifies for board certification. (Note: VA physicians involved in academic training may need to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residency programs include: (1) Those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), (2) Those accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or (3) Other residency programs (non-U.S.) followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the U.S., deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
Residents currently in ACGME/AOA accredited programs who meet the basic appointment requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full medical license (not a training license) and can only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. They are not considered independent practitioners and will not have privileges; their scope of practice will be limited to specific duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
Additional Requirements:
Board certification in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Preferred experience in facial trauma repair and reconstruction following dermatologic surgery.
Credentials suitable for appointments at a medical school such as Boston University or Harvard Medical School.
Fellowship training in head and neck surgical oncology and facial plastics/microvascular reconstruction.
A strong academic background with evidence of teaching, research, and publications.
Expertise in microvascular reconstruction and robotic transoral surgery.
