CDL Freight Driver - Heavy Equipment/Low Boy

The CDL Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely local and regional transport of material handling equipment, including forklifts, industrial batteries, chargers, and other related items. A valid CDL with a Hazardous Materials endorsement is required for this position. The driver must comply with all DOT regulations and company policies, ensure the proper securement of all loads, maintain accurate documentation and electronic logs, and safely transport hazardous materials in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform daily tractor and trailer inspections in accordance with DOT guidelines.
• Safely load, secure, and unload material handling equipment using proper securement techniques and designated dock equipment.
• Operate 53' flat deck roll-off and lowboy trailers.
• Maintain accurate and compliant electronic logbooks/ELDs.
• Follow all DOT rules and regulations, including size, weight, routing, parking, and break requirements.
• Report equipment defects, accidents, or violations to the Corporate Manager, Shop & Transportation.
• Adhere to shipping and receiving procedures, including use of the Warehouse Management System.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and professional appearance of the truck and trailer; report maintenance or compliance issues promptly.
• Perform minor maintenance such as greasing, replacing light bulbs, and other basic upkeep tasks.
• Conduct proper damage assessments of equipment and provide required documentation and photos.
• Verify route completion and submit all required paperwork for processing.
• Interact professionally with internal staff and customers.

Additional Warehouse Responsibilities

When driving assignments, deliveries, or equipment moves are unavailable, CDL Drivers are expected to assist with warehouse and dock operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Loading and unloading freight
• Putting away equipment and materials in designated storage locations
• Safely operating overhead cranes and other material handling equipment. (Training provided)
• Assisting with general dock organization, housekeeping, and inventory tasks.
• Supporting the dock team with other duties as assigned to help maintain efficient daily operations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Valid CDL license with a clean driving record.
• Current Hazmat endorsement or ability to obtain within 60 days.
• Proficiency in operating semi-tractors with flat deck roll-off and lowboy trailers.
• Knowledge of proper load securement for forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Strong understanding of DOT regulations, compliance standards, and safety practices.
• Ability to perform daily tractor-trailer inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
• Familiarity with electronic logbooks, ELD devices, and related compliance tools.
• Ability to understand shipment setup, labeling, logging, and counting procedures.
• Ability to maintain CDL requirements, including medical certification.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant driving experience preferred.
