SummaryThe Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing electrical engineering support to all New York Power Authority generating plants and transmission substations throughout the State of New York. You will support future renwable energy generation, nuclear power stations, and supporting transmission stations. #LI-AE1ResponsibilitiesProvide lead engineer function in support of a wide range of design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities & practices.Perform field visits to complete field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations and develop technical recommendations with moderate complexity. Perform occasional emergency response, including outside of normal business hours.Independently coordinate cross disciplinary activities for the successful development and execution of projects and/or O&M activities.Select and apply codes, standards and procedures to work tasks appropriately.Perform inspections and evaluations to ensure engineering requirements and Authority specifications are satisfied.Provide technical leadership in state-of-the-art engineering and analytical techniques.Review designs, calculations, specifications, and reports produced by other internal engineers and external consultants.Provide direction and review for the electrical design and drafting personnel in the development of project drawings (site-based).For assigned work and projects, provide supervision of maintenance department(s) staff, and contractors, and prepare and monitor the day-to-day work activities of the crafts. Work with planners in scheduling work activities; oversee the safety of employees. Review job packages to ensure they are complete and current prior to performance of the work. Review completed work, job packages, and work orders to verify all steps are complete and to ensure that all data/information is recorded.Site ElectricalHold work clearances, and coordinate work activitiesMetering GroupReview and validate operational and revenue meter system and ensure proper operation and profiling of generation, transmission, and customer load data. Interface within NYPA and external agencies to support settlement and reporting activities.Site ECC Perform emergency response on a 24x7 on-call basis to support ECC.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficient in the design, operation and maintenance of the electrical systems specific to the electric utility, or commercial/industrial industry, along with their various systems and componentsAbility to apply diverse technical principles and practices, with the understanding of the NYPA’s policies, operations and objectives, to engineering deliverables.Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Collaborative and team-oriented with ability to build relationships with vendors and stakeholders.Ability to coordinate the technical and commercial aspects of projects.Ability to perform engineering calculations, and complete specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.Working experience with Electrical design or forecasting software such as SKM Power Tools preferred.Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projectsEducation, Experience and CertificationsBachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university.Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.Minimum of eight (8) years of related work experience.New York State Engineer in Training certification preferred.Physical RequirementsApproximately 25% travel, primarily within NY StateWillingness to enter confined spaces and climb/scale power system apparatuses is required. The estimated salary range for this position is: $129,000 - $161,000.
