Roles and Responsibilities

• Prepare endoscopy procedure rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies before scheduled procedures
• Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures by providing required instruments and supplies
• Maintain a sterile and safe procedural environment throughout examinations and interventions
• Assist with patient preparation, positioning, transport, and recovery activities as directed
• Handle endoscopes and other specialized equipment according to manufacturer and facility guidelines
• Perform appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and high-level disinfection or sterilization of endoscopes and related equipment
• Inspect endoscopy equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before and after procedures
• Maintain accurate documentation related to equipment processing, tracking, and quality control
• Assist with procedure room turnover and ensure rooms are fully prepared for the next case
• Maintain adequate inventory of endoscopy supplies and communicate shortages promptly
• Handle specimens according to facility policies, including proper identification, labeling, and transport
• Follow infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and patient safety standards
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists, nurses, physicians, anesthesia staff, and other members of the procedural team
• Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or breaks in infection-control procedures promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient endoscopy department

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an Endoscopy Technician, Surgical Technology, or related healthcare program preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent Endoscopy Technician experience
• Experience with endoscope cleaning, disinfection, and processing preferred
• Current BLS Certification preferred or required by facility
• Strong knowledge of endoscopy equipment, instruments, infection prevention, and procedural safety
• Familiarity with endoscope tracking and documentation systems
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced procedural environment
• Ability to safely handle and transport medical equipment
