Job Title
Under close supervision, performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance and/or landscaping duties within the County parks buildings, grounds, parks facilities, campsites, ballparks, and recreation sites.
Tasks include operating landscaping equipment, performing vehicle and equipment checks, performing preventive maintenance, and providing assistance in snow removal and ice control. Work involves mowing grass, weeding plant beds, pruning trees, trimming and edging landscaping, cleaning restrooms, facilities, grounds, pavilions, campsites, ballparks, and other recreation facilities, performing maintenance and repairs of recreation facilities and grounds, and ensuring workplace safety.
Knowledge of equipment manuals, work orders, and other documentation relating to the maintenance of County parks and recreational facilities is required, along with knowledge of Hamilton County policies and procedures, relevant Federal, State, and County codes and regulations relating to building maintenance and workplace safety, and relevant Federal and State regulations relating to the operation of Commercial Vehicles. Skills in reading, interpreting, understanding, and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Hamilton County Policies and Procedures, working with a variety of hand and power tools and landscaping and construction equipment, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments and contractors, and the performance of landscaping and plant care are also required.
Minimum qualifications include the equivalent of a high school diploma and a valid Class B CDL driver's license or permit at the time of application, or one (1) year of work experience with Hamilton County Parks & Recreation. Additional requirements include the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL driver's license within six (6) months of date of hire, regular visits to County facilities and work sites, and completion of the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level prior to operating a County-owned vehicle.
Preferred qualifications include a valid class A or B CDL. This position is safety sensitive and will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for various reasons including post offer pre-employment, reasonable cause, after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident, on a random basis, prior to return to duty after suspension, and as follow-up. Physical requirements include considerable walking and standing with intermittent sitting and driving, lifting and carrying/moving up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds occasionally, and working in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and exposed to wet or humid conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of electrical shock, and loud noise levels.
