Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology Technologist

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology Technologist. The ideal candidate will possess experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center.

This position operates on Day Shift with an On-Call Rotation, which includes weeknights, weekends, and holidays. The role encompasses various specialties within Cardiovascular Intervention, including Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, Interventional Radiology, and Electrophysiology. The successful candidate will receive cross-training in all these specialties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Verify patient identification and ensure consent forms are appropriately signed.
• Assess patient allergies and previous contrast reactions using both records and direct questioning.
• Check the integrity and expiration dates of sterile supplies and medications.
• Prepare equipment for sterilization and monitor vital signs before and after procedures.
• Participate in essential pre-procedural time-out activities to ensure safety.
• Prepare access sites using required sterile drapes and covers while ensuring patient comfort.
• Select appropriate contrast agents in conjunction with the physician and operate the automatic contrast injector.
• Administer injectable medications according to the physician's orders, including analgesics and anticoagulants.
• Recognize and respond effectively to patient emergencies during procedures.
• Utilize sterile and aseptic techniques to assist the physician and prevent infections.
• Champion radiation safety protocols and document fluoroscopy time and radiation dose accurately.
• Position patients and imaging equipment appropriately for optimal imaging results.
• Acquire and process digital images, including advanced reconstruction techniques.
• Provide assistance with ultrasound guidance for procedures such as vascular access and biopsies.
• Document all procedural data accurately, including physiologic data and administered medications.
• Ensure quality post-procedure care for patients, including managing puncture sites and providing patient instructions.
• Offer practical instruction and support to students and newly partnered staff.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited radiology program.

Certification / Licensure

• IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required.
• ARRT(R) certification required.
• ARRT(VI) or ARRT(CI) certification required.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification required.
• PALS certification required.
• NIHSS certification is a plus.

Shift Information

• Day Shift with On-Call Rotation required.
• Holiday coverage is required.

Minimum Years of Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.

Certifications / Requirements

• ACLS certification.
• BLS/BCLS certification.
• PALS certification.
• ARRT(R) certification.
