Mechanic I

Mechanic I Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Transportation Shop Manager Pay Grade: 507 Duty Days: 260 Dept./School: Transportation Date Revised: 7/2026

Primary Purpose

To conduct preventive maintenance programs as well as maintain the mechanical conditions of all vehicles within the district.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification

High School diploma or Equivalent Possess or able to obtain a current Class B CDL with P & S endorsements within 90 days of hire date.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Basic Mechanical ability Ability to receive and carry out verbal instructions effectively.

Minimum Experience

Have knowledge and experience in fleet repair and maintenance (gasoline and diesel) Automatic and standard transmissions Extensive knowledge in electrical trouble shooting and repair electrical systems Extensive knowledge in brake repairs (air and hydraulic)

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Align the major functions of the assignment with district goals such that all students succeed. Maintain and repair buses at the direction of the Shop Manager. Attend all safety-related meetings as required by Bryan ISD. Transport students when needed at the direction of the Transportation Director(s). Maintain a positive working relationship with all transportation personnel. Report all parts and procedures used to the parts clerk. Clean the shop area after repairs are completed daily. Provide roadside assistance to fleet. Properly tow vehicles when needed. Report suspected vehicle abuse to appropriate supervisors. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain reliable, punctual, and dependable attendance. Possess or earn ASE Certification.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Heavy lifting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, ability to drive a 72 passenger bus.

Environment: Works outside in all ranges of temperatures and humidity. Works inside in regular vehicle maintenance shop conditions.
