Ambulatory Patient Care Tech – PRN (as needed) – Position ID 2600018Y. This role is on a PRN schedule, available Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, supporting the multidisciplinary health care delivery team under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Functional Accountabilities Clinical Activities Collect and document patient data (chief complaint, medications, allergies, tobacco history, etc.). Obtain vital signs (T, P, R, BP), height, weight, head circumference and orient families. Recognize abnormalities and report to the Registered Nurse or Provider; assist with pain screening. Identify signs of abuse or neglect and report as required. Provide basic nursing care (nourishment, ambulation assistance, discharge escort). Ensure equipment (scales, stadiometers, vital signs machines, otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, oxygen, suction) is functional and notify repairs. Collect specimens for testing, perform specific tests, and collect blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary method. Provide patients/guardians with information about collection procedures and other resources. Meet Joint Commission and DOH documentation requirements. Complete clean sweep tasks weekly. Patient Flow and Unit Efficiency Maintain a neat, orderly environment. Prepare exam rooms for patients. Prioritize and complete tasks or report inability to complete them. Obtain equipment and supplies and maintain PAR levels. Monitor the waiting room; inform families of delays and provide directions to lab, radiology, cafeteria, etc. Identify children/families with special needs. Communication Contribute to a positive work environment. Coordinate with requisite personnel regarding unanticipated problems. Greet patients/families and adapt to their needs and level of education. Maintain a courteous, calm, comforting, and professional demeanor. Laboratory Competency Perform, evaluate, and report QC protocols. Resolve QC failures and document resolutions. Participate in continuing education and competency challenges. Process specimens, coordinate pick‑up/delivery, and troubleshoot processing issues. Handle improperly labeled specimens and requisition problems. Answer technical questions and route to appropriate area. Maintain daily lab equipment records and inventory supplies. Conduct routine laboratory tests such as urine dipstick, glucose, A1C. Self‑Responsibility Follow directions precisely and maintain confidentiality. Attend in‑services and develop annual personal education goals. Maintain satisfactory time and attendance. Complete all Occupational Health requirements. Maintain BLS and any required certifications per jurisdiction. Qualifications Minimum Education : High School Diploma or GED. Minimum Work Experience : 1 year in an acute health care setting, preferably pediatrics. Licenses & Certifications : CNA, EMT, or CPCT; BLS.
