Housekeeping Supervisor – Grafton Hospital

Under general direction, establishes cleaning schedules. Responds to, and schedules, specific cleaning requests , manages the environmental services (EVS) team to maintain strict sanitation, hygiene, and infection-control standards across patient rooms, surgical suites, and public areas . Responds to emergency calls and general requests from staff. Performs all duties within established department policies and procedures. May need to drive. Interacts with patients and the public .

Responsibilities

• Staff Management & Scheduling: Create and manage shift schedules, assign daily cleaning duties, and oversee performance for a team of housekeepers .
• Infection Control & Compliance: Enforce hospital-grade sanitation protocols, proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, and safe handling of hazardous or medical waste.
• Quality Inspections: Conduct routine audits and checklist-based inspections of patient rooms, corridors, and high-touch areas, ordering recleaning if standards are not met.
• Discharge Turnovers: Coordinate rapid, thorough sanitization of inpatient rooms immediately following patient discharges.
• Inventory & Supplies: Monitor stock levels of cleaning chemicals, paper goods, and linens, placing orders and managing equipment repairs.
• Training & Onboarding: Train new housekeeping attendants on hospital protocols, chemical safety, and infection prevention, providing refresher training as needed.
• Maintenance Coordination: Identify broken fixtures, appliances, or infrastructure and submit work orders to the facilities/maintenance department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education: Typically requires a high school diploma or GED; some facilities prefer an associate or bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business, or healthcare administration.

Certifications: Credentials such as Certified Environmental Housekeeper (CEH) from the International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) are a strong plus.

Operations: Hospitals operate 24/7, meaning supervisors may oversee rotating shifts (morning, evening, night, or weekend coverage) and remain on-call for emergencies.

Physical Demands: Involves extensive walking, standing, and inspecting across multi-floor facilities, as well as occasional hands-on assistance during critical staffing shortages.

Experience: Generally requires 2 to 3 years of housekeeping experience, with prior supervisory or team-lead experience in a healthcare , hospitality, or commercial setting.

Knowledge & Technical Skills

• Deep understanding of OSHA regulations, EPA-approved disinfectants, and hospital infection-control guidelines.
• Familiarity with floor-care machinery and commercial cleaning equipment.
• Basic computer skills for tracking inventory, timecards, and work logs.
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, conflict resolution, time management, and clear verbal/written communication.
