Job Description and Duties

This position is eligible to telework up to one (1) day a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. This is subject to change based on operational need and/or future return to office orders. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under close supervision of Accounting Administrator I (Sup), the Accountant Trainee performs, in a learning capacity, professional accounting and payment activities of assigned programs while maintaining the proper internal controls. The accounting tasks are performed in accordance with Office of Fiscal Services (OFS) guidelines, Governor's Budget, Department Of Finance (DOF) rules and regulations, State Controller's Office (SCO) policies, California Prompt Payment Act, State Administrative Manual (SAM), and government codes utilizing the Financial Information System of California (FI$Cal) People Soft and Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Accounting Systems: Familiar with accounting software like QuickBooks or state-specific systems like Fi$cal.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professional with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent Work Habits: Attention to detail, dependability, punctuality, ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Teamwork: Ability to work productively both independently and cooperatively within a team environment.
