Consultant in Cardiology – NHS Fixed Term/Substantive (12 months) We are recruiting a Consultant in Cardiology on a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join a prestigious NHS Trust’s Cardiology department. Our Client Our client provides acute treatment and care for a catchment population of around 500,000 people. With 759 beds, the Trust offers comprehensive acute services including medicine and surgery, women and children’s services, accident and emergency, and diagnostic and clinical support. The CQC rated our care as outstanding. Cardiology services cover a local population of approximately 550,000. The purpose‑built Cardiac Centre, opened in 2000, houses two dedicated cardiac catheterisation laboratories for interventional work. The department occupies two floors within the central block of the Royal United Hospitals, with full outpatient facilities, consulting suites, exercise testing rooms, echocardiography rooms, 12‑lead ECG and ambulatory ECG facilities, seminar and office spaces, a radial lounge, and adjacent cardiac catheterisation suites. Below the department are an 8‑bed Coronary Care Unit, a 36‑bed cardiac ward, and a day‑case area with investigative trolleys. Department Composition The team includes 11 Cardiology Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist in Cardiology, 2 Specialist Registrars, 1 Trust Grade, 1 F1, 1 F2, 1 CMT and 1 GPST in the Severn Deanery. There are regular nurse/physiologist‑led chest pain clinics, five heart‑failure nurses, and a cardiac rehabilitation unit with five part‑time nurses. Key Responsibilities Engage in TOE/echocardiography as a sub‑specialty interest Provide all cardiac services to the local population Participate in audit and directorate meetings Undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician of Cardiology Lead regular outpatient clinics and sub‑specialty sessions, combined with ward work Manage acute cardiac admissions (ward commitments two weeks out of nine weeks) Contribute to research and teaching projects and courses Organise and attend departmental meetings, enhancing the department and Trust’s standing Benefits & Opportunities The Trust offers attractive transport links to major cities, including Birmingham and London, as well as two internationally rated airports.
