Job Description

The Manufacturing Supervisor leads daily operations in a heavy industrial nonwoven manufacturing environment, overseeing approximately 45 employees to ensure a safe, productive, and efficient workplace. This role drives performance in safety, quality, production, equipment reliability, and employee engagement while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise shift operations for approximately 45 hourly production employees in a heavy industrial nonwoven manufacturing environment.

• Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits and actively participate in emergency response activities.

• Oversee production activities to meet established goals for output, quality, and efficiency.

• Monitor equipment performance, coordinate troubleshooting efforts, and take action to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.

• Communicate production priorities, changes in schedules, and operational updates clearly to team members.

• Conduct effective shift handoff meetings to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of operations between shifts.

• Monitor product quality throughout the production process and ensure adherence to quality standards and operating procedures.

• Support investigations into quality issues and customer concerns and help implement corrective and preventive actions.

• Coach, mentor, and develop hourly production employees by providing regular performance feedback and holding team members accountable for results.

• Support hiring, onboarding, and training of production staff to build a capable and engaged workforce.

• Contribute to performance management and employee development activities, including identifying training needs and development opportunities.

• Foster a culture of teamwork, open communication, and collaboration across the manufacturing floor.

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.

• Lead waste reduction efforts and process improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.

• Promote workplace organization and operational excellence practices to create a clean, efficient, and well-structured production environment.

• Manage scheduling for production employees, including shift assignments and vacation planning, to ensure adequate staffing.

• Oversee payroll-related activities for the manufacturing floor, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

• Use production metrics, reporting systems, and manufacturing technologies to monitor performance and drive data-informed decisions.

• Maintain a hands-on supervisory presence on the production floor to support employees, address issues in real time, and reinforce expectations.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or a closely related environment.

• Proven manufacturing leadership experience within a heavy industrial nonwoven manufacturing environment or related continuous-process industries such as textiles, paper, or converting (strongly preferred).

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, influence, and hold a large team accountable.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions.

• Safety-focused leadership style with a hands-on approach to managing people and processes.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to clearly convey expectations and provide feedback.

• Effective problem-solving skills to address operational, quality, and personnel issues.

• Ability to motivate, engage, and develop employees at all levels on the manufacturing floor.

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills to interpret production data and take appropriate action.

• Experience working with production metrics, reporting systems, and manufacturing technologies.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, scheduling, and communication.

• Commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

• High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.

• Experience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

• SAP experience or familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

• Experience leading waste reduction and process improvement initiatives.

• Experience in continuous-process industries such as textiles, paper, or converting.

• Comfort working in a hands-on supervisory role in a heavy industrial setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility operating on a 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM schedule with a 2-2-3 rotating shift pattern. The position requires extensive walking and standing for extended periods and regular work around large-scale production equipment and automated machinery. The supervisor will frequently use stairs and access elevated platforms as needed. Required personal protective equipment must be worn in designated production areas. The environment includes exposure to noise, temperature variations, dust, fiber, and other typical manufacturing conditions. The facility is not climate-controlled and can be dirty at times. This is a hands-on supervisory role that requires consistent presence on the production floor and comfort working in a physically demanding industrial setting.

This is a Permanent position based out of Benson, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $90000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
