Medical Assistant or LPN Pawhuska Hospital, Inc. - Pawhuska, OK 74056 Overview Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Category Health Care Description Position Summary A clinically competent Certified Medical Assistant or LPN who coordinates and delivers professional healthcare to the acutely ill, healthy and or childhood wellness checks for patients in all phases of life (newborn through geriatric) using the knowledge obtained through their certified training. CMA/LPN will be expected to effectively interact with the patient, significant other(s), other healthcare team members and front office staff, all while maintaining the standards of professional healthcare. The CMA/LPN will be responsible for assisting physicians/providers, Nursing team, Clinic Manager and front office staff, providing assistance such as patient preparation, basic screening procedures, entering patient data/healthcare information, assisting with front office duties such as (scheduling, answering phone calls, checking patients in and out for their appointments, collecting co-pays etc.) Qualifications Position Qualifications Minimum Qualifications ACLS and BLS required upon hire. PALS required within 90-days of employment Demonstrates initiative, ability to work with others, and professional judgement. 2 yrs minimum experience as a certified medical assistant Education and/or Experience Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of a certified medical assistant; of scientific principles and preparation, administration, and action of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for pediatrics through geriatric patients. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. **Required educational levels call for proof at time of hire. 2 years previous clinic experience preferred. Licensure/Certification Licensed as a certified medical assistant or LPN in the state of Oklahoma BLS and ACLS required upon hire PALS required within 90-days of employment *Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire. Language Skills English is the primary language Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to interpret reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, physicians, clients, customers, employees, and the public. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, percent, rate, as well as the ability to create and interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, and/or diagram form. Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in statistical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Essential Functions and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key function satisfactorily. Each category will be assessed on performance measurements of appropriateness, efficiency, effectiveness, and timeliness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the key functions. Job Functions Assist the physician and mid-level providers with office practice. Prepare for patient appointments by obtaining required information such as lab results, results of radiological procedures, medical records, and other information as required. Assist Medical providers during outpatient surgical procedures and treatments: Writing orders and completing consent forms as needed for procedures and treatment Gathering supplies and equipment needed for each specialist procedures Maintaining a sterile environment during the outpatient procedure Assisting the physicians during the outpatient surgeries including invasive procedures Monitoring the patient during the treatment and procedures and providing medical assistant care as needed Assist with specimen collection and appropriate laboratory techniques to complete diagnostic tests Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge of medication and administers them according to policy and procedures including various injections. Maintain records, reports, logs and statistics as required. Follows procedures when distributing samples, administering medications and or sending in prescriptions after obtaining physician approval on refills. Exercises appropriate judgement and correct techniques in the performance of procedures, treatments, and drug administration. Maintains a safe environment for patients, customers, self and other employees. Participates in other assigned duties as designated by the Physician/Practitioner, Clinic Manager, Nursing staff; including pre-certifications are obtained for all patients evaluated at or referred from the clinic. Adheres to clinic dress code, wearing your name badge. Identify yourself to patients and customers on the phone and in person. Responds to phone calls and messages in a timely manner. Participates in the review/revision of clinic policies, procedures, standards of patient care and standards of certified medical assistant practices as needed. Attends necessary meetings on time and takes responsibility for the content if absent. Maintains professional growth and participates in additional training as needed. Consistently presents a professional image and a caring attitude. Provides safe and effective care to patients through the use of the certified medical assistant process. Utilizes measures to promote patient, visitors, and personnel safety. Demonstrates knowledge in phone etiquette, scheduling, faxing, communicating effectively with patients and staff members as well as other outside entities. Demonstrates knowledge of disaster/emergency procedures and responds appropriately in emergency situations. Demonstrates computer knowledge and basic computer/office staff skills Additional Responsibilities Seek out external resources through conferences, workshops, etc. as necessary. Share professional knowledge with hospital staff, board members, and administrator as necessary. Comply with HIPAA regulatory requirements. Adhere to the companies/facilities philosophy, mission, and policies and procedures. Support the facility goals and objectives. Maintains a good attendance record and follows all hospital/clinic rules, policies and procedures. Maintains open and effective communication with patients and their nurses, physicians, peers, supervisors, and students. Establishes and maintains excellent interdepartmental and interpersonal relationships. Attends departmental meetings and in-services to stay current with the developments of the clinic and hospital. Observes that proper safety measures are enforced in the techniques used on patients receiving therapy. Maintains high safety standards in the clinic. Interpersonal Skills Demonstrates active listening techniques. Gains support through effective relationships. Treats others with dignity and respect; seeks feedback. Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times; in care and use of patient and or hospital/clinic property. Demonstrates and understands the importance of and respect for the rights, dignity and individuality of each patient in all interactions. Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to the needs of patients by complying with hospital/clinic policies. Demonstrates professionalism at all times without discriminating regardless of race, sex, age, disability and or religion.
