Position Summary

The Chief Psychiatrist provides diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and psychiatric consultation for inmates. This includes clinical direction, general supervision, training of site staff, and managerial duties. The Chief Psychiatrist signs and monitors treatment plans, creates discharge plans, and ensures appropriate follow‑up after release from the facility.

Essential Functions

• Provide onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical and clinical staff.
• Prepare written summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment course.
• Serve as primary psychiatric provider for inpatients, including assessment, diagnosis, staffing, treatment planning, and regular review of all assigned inmates.
• Provide psychiatric services for wards in the general population requiring regular behavioral health follow‑up.
• Coordinate transfer to Behavioral Health facilities when needed, including work‑up and court hearing testimony.
• Participate in treatment programming and planning for the Behavioral Health Unit, including staffing discussions, medication monitoring, and general psychiatric input.
• Manage medications for all admitted inmates.
• Offer individual and/or group therapy as appropriate.
• Approving, signing, and monitoring treatment plans.
• Approve all admissions and discharges into the Behavioral Health Unit, if applicable.
• Provide in‑service education to site staff as required.
• Attend training and meetings as needed.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of medical school with completion of an appropriate psychiatric residency.
• Licensed to practice in the state of Wisconsin.
• Current DEA registration.

Salary Information

$170 - $200 hourly wage

4 hours weekly (4 hrs/wk)
