WOC - Research Health System Specialist

Summary This position serves as Without Compensation (WOC) Research Health System Specialist with the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The VA Research Program strives to promote Veteran-centered care to improve patient experiences and outcomes across VA healthcare and community settings - and to advance value-driven care by providing Veterans the highest quality care at the lowest financial burden. Qualifications Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): meet the requirements by the closing date of this announcement (06/01/2026). Applicants must meet the IOR with one of the following criteria: Undergraduate and Graduate Education in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with coursework in health care administration; OR Specialized Experience in progressively responsible analytical or administrative, clinical management, or supervisory roles in the health care field with advisory or directional authority over facilities and close working relationships with facility managers, analysis and coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and knowledge of health care delivery system missions, regulations and standards, and government-wide agency and facility systems in budget, personnel, and procurement. Basic Requirements: General experience: Working with studies that investigate the biological and psychological aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder; Laboratory data collection and management including transport of urine, blood, and saliva samples; Advertising and recruitment for study subjects; Maintaining study documentation and institutional review board correspondence. Experience may include paid and unpaid, volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A full year of work is considered 35-40 hours per week; part-time experience is credited based on time actually spent. Physical requirements: The work is predominantly sedentary; the employee sits comfortably, but walking, standing, bending, and carrying moderate weight items (large binders, file boxes, meeting materials, papers, books, small parts) are required. Hand and eye coordination for delicate testing procedures may be the only special physical demand. Duties Major Duties: Work on various studies investigating the biological and psychological aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder; responsible for all aspects of data collection and management, including transport of urine, blood, and saliva samples. Additional responsibilities include advertising and recruiting subjects, study document maintenance, and institutional review board correspondence.
