Machinist - 2nd Shift

Business Profile Wyman‑Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all of the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman‑Gordon creates rotating closed‑die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land‑based gas turbines. Wyman‑Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications. Location Profile Located in South Gate, Dickson Testing Company, Inc. is a full‑service destructive testing laboratory serving aerospace and metallic producers worldwide. Our laboratories provide metallurgical, mechanical, corrosion, and chemical testing services. In support of these services our facility provides complete specimen fabrication, cut‑off services, and heat‑treat capability. Position Summary Machinists/operators, under direct supervision, load and unload parts for operation of 2‑to‑5‑axis CNC/automated mill and lathe machine tools to produce complex machined aerospace parts. Level‑one machinists are responsible for in‑process inspection of machined product, requiring basic competencies in shop math, hand‑measuring tools, and documentation. Level‑one machinists also perform some deburr operations as well as basic preventative machine maintenance, including coolant and lube levels and area cleanliness. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Comply with PCC Code of Conduct Requirements and all PCC Cardinal Rules (e.g., Quality and Safety). Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction. Perform proper inspections of general tools, such as height gauges, bore gauges, profilometers, etc. Have a basic understanding of GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerance). Understand machine setup and tool selection. Set fundamental machine work settings and tool offsets. Load and indicate fixtures. Adjust offsets as needed. Maintain machine control “distance to go.” Maintain accuracy by setting up first‑run proofing. Know lathe setup procedures. Operate two lathes simultaneously. Manage tool wear to protect parts. Maintain SPC control. Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications. Respond to machining process quality queues (e.g., surface finish). Operate mills, grinders, and other CNC equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills Understand GD&T (geometric dimensioning & tolerance). Set up a machine and select basic tools. Maintain accuracy by setting up first‑run proofing. Operate two lathes simultaneously. Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications. Experience & Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. 1+ year of related experience and/or training is required. One‑year certificate from a college or technical trade school is preferred. Experience in manufacturing is preferred. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee frequently stands, walks, and sits; occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Manufacturing and laboratory environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $18 to $22 USD hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the company’s quarterly cash bonus plan paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the company’s bonus multiple based on the company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off per year and 10 paid holidays.
