Job Title Associate Director or Assistant Director, Major Gifts Department Development Reports to Chief Development Officer Job Summary The Associate / Assistant Director (AD), Major Gifts is a motivated member of a dynamic and ambitious team and will play a critical role in achieving individual and institutional goals for Cambridge in America (CAm). Responsible for managing a portfolio of 70-85 prospects and donors capable of making six-figure+ gifts, the AD will be based in New York and will cultivate, steward, and solicit prospects within an assigned geographic region in North America. The AD will also guide the management of a volunteer regional committee(s). The AD will work in collaboration with CAm development staff and colleagues from the University of Cambridge (UK) and its constituent Colleges on emerging campaign priorities. The AD will report to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). Responsibilities This role involves a high-level of collaboration with both internal partners at Cambridge in America (CAm), and external partners across Cambridge, at the Collegiate and University level. In collaboration with the CDO and CAm, College, and University colleagues, develops and executes plans to secure prospect visits, make solicitations, and close gifts. Works closely with the Manager, Board and Volunteer Programs and Alumni Relations and Events team to develop and execute strategies for engaging alumni, building community throughout assigned regions, and managing regional volunteers. As appropriate, staffs high-level university and college leadership on prospect meetings throughout assigned regions. Assists with implementation and staffing of CAm and University of Cambridge events, including occasional night and weekend events. Ensures timely completion and entry of contact reports on meetings and interactions with alumni, donors, and prospects. Partners with donor relations and communication colleagues to ensure appropriate stewardship for assigned prospects. Performs additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s degree or higher; or presents an appropriate combination of education and experience. At least 4 years development, marketing, sales, or equivalent experience. Experience working in a complex organization or university setting preferred. Capacity to develop and maintain trust and collegiality within a highly collaborative and complex working environment, and an ability to work with an array of personalities with differing and sometimes competing priorities. A high degree of professionalism and patience, including the demonstrated ability to manage responsibilities with tight and changing deadlines with accountability, flexibility, integrity, and tact. Outstanding organizational and analytical skills. Results-oriented with excellent follow-through skills. Exceptional persuasive oral and written communication skills. Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Approximately 25-40% travel. Ability to work in the US. Salary The salary for this position is $90,000 - $135,000 per annum. CAm is currently operating on a hybrid schedule requiring at least three days working in the office each week.
