Banner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Coordinator to join the Advanced Heart Failure team at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix. This is a day shift position working Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM with some schedule flexibility, plus 24‑hour on‑call rotations (including weekend and holiday coverage). The role focuses on providing comprehensive management and coordination of care for patients requiring Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD) or Total Artificial Heart (TAH) devices throughout their entire healthcare journey. In this position, the RN MCS Coordinator is involved in care coordination from pre‑implant evaluation through post‑operative care and long‑term follow‑up, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team. The coordinator will serve as a vital resource and educator for patients, families, healthcare providers, and community professionals, providing clinical and technical support. This includes pre‑ and post‑operative patient education, staff training and after‑hours support for patient calls, quality improvement initiatives, operating room preparation assistance, and readmission coordination for patients experiencing difficulties. Responsibilities Manages individual patients across the healthcare continuum to achieve optimal clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction outcomes. Facilitates, coordinates, and monitors pre‑implant evaluations and the care of implant candidates awaiting implantation. Collects required clinical data and collaborates with case managers and insurance providers for approval, interpreting pay‑or contracts to maximize facility and program reimbursement. Ensures compliance with contract stipulations and obtains appropriate implant authorizations. Establishes and promotes collaborative relationships with physicians, health‑care team members, and third‑party payors. Serves as a resource to health‑care providers, patients, physicians, and office staff, educating them on individual care policies related to service rendering. Provides post‑operative and procedural education to patients and families in collaboration with nursing staff in preparation for discharge. Supplies support and education to nursing staff and other health professionals regarding the device or procedure and develops educational and marketing programs. Participates in the program quality assurance process. Evaluates current processes, identifies needs for change, and implements improvement projects to achieve optimal clinical, financial, operational, and satisfaction outcomes. Acts as a change agent by continually monitoring processes for improvement opportunities and assists in developing policies and procedures for delivery of care to the patient population. Provides support to patients after discharge for clinical and technical assistance, including after‑hour patient call responsibilities, and coordinates readmissions for patients experiencing difficulties. Serves internal customers—patients, families, surgeons, interdisciplinary team, management, nursing and medical staff, and other hospital staff—and external customers—referring physicians, office staff, laboratories, third‑party payers, pharmacies, community agencies, provider networks, and regulatory agencies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a biological science (biology, chemistry, anatomy, nursing, etc.) Registered Nurse (RN) license or equivalent health‑care program qualification Minimum five years clinical experience, with at least two years in the clinical specialty area Working knowledge of care management, resource/utilization management, and hospital and community resources Clinical proficiency in care of LVAD or VAD patients Critical‑thinking, problem‑solving, effective oral and written communication, time‑management, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field or certification in an area of specialty Additional related education and/or experience EEO Statement: EEO/Disabled/Veterans Our organization supports a drug‑free work environment.
