Summary Statement DPH seeks to hire a Physician with expertise in epidemiology to serve as the Delaware State Epidemiologist. The role includes overseeing the DPH Epidemiology Section, reorganizing current assets, establishing the Office of Rural Health Epidemiology (ORHE), leading a diverse group of epidemiology experts, providing direct patient care when assigned, and working in a hybrid position located at 30 Sunnyside Road Smyrna, DE 19977. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent. Essential Functions Serve as the designated State Epidemiologist and oversee epidemiology staff and non‑epidemiology staff within the DPH Epidemiology Section. Direct statewide epidemiology activities including surveillance, investigation, reporting, and response for infectious diseases, chronic diseases, environmental conditions, maternal health, and other public health significance conditions. Liaise with federal and regional partners such as CDC and CTSE. Analyze and interpret surveillance, laboratory, and population health data to identify disease trends, assess health risks, and inform public health policy, clinical guidance, and resource allocation decisions. Provide medical and scientific consultation to state and county health officials and community partners during public health emergencies. Perform direct patient care in person or via telemedicine. Job Requirements Possession of a Delaware Physician M.D. or Delaware Physician D.O. license, or eligibility to obtain a Delaware license within six months of hire. At least six months of experience practicing medicine in a hospital, clinic, or private practice. At least six months of experience in health or human services program administration, including program development, implementation, evaluation, and consulting. Demonstrated experience in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, or management of large datasets. Conditions of Hire Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
