Part‑Time Faculty (MD, DO) – Simulation Center Instructor (College of Medicine‑Phoenix) Position Highlights The Center for Simulation and Innovation (CSI) at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine‑Phoenix is a state‑of‑the‑art healthcare simulation facility dedicated, in every sense, to continually improving health care through education, research, and advancement of clinical care. The world‑class 33,000 square‑foot facility is designed to teach all healthcare professionals in a safe and realistic clinical environment. The center features multiple mock hospital rooms and resuscitation bays, surgical, obstetric and pediatric suites, debriefing rooms, and a myriad of high‑fidelity mannequins, simulators, and synthetic task trainers. Members of the Simulation Faculty Pool will have the opportunity to work alongside nationally recognized educators, researchers, and clinicians to help develop an innovative simulation curriculum to enhance medical student education and improve patient care. As part of the simulation team, Simulation Faculty Pool members will also enjoy the benefits of participating in faculty development sessions geared towards improving bedside education, enhancing clinical assessments, and integration of advanced medical technologies into clinical practice. Duties & Responsibilities Simulation‑based training (SBT) is integrated into all four years of the medical student curriculum at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine‑Phoenix. Medical students participate in simulation‑based activities centered around small‑group teaching with active discussions and debriefings, in addition to procedural training and practice. Eligible physicians are invited to apply for a Simulation Instructor position. Simulation Instructors will be provided with the opportunity to participate in and facilitate simulation‑based training events throughout the academic year. As a Simulation Instructor, physicians will work alongside the Simulation Curriculum Directors and the Block, Clerkship, Theme, and Course Directors to develop, review, and organize simulation scenarios used to train and educate medical students. Simulation Instructors will participate in simulation scenarios and coordinate facilitated debriefing sessions following each scenario to enhance medical student education. They will also help coordinate simulation‑based educational activities and assist with recruiting and training faculty volunteers participating in the program. Simulation Instructors will be required to work a minimum of 25 hours in simulation per academic year with a maximum of 200 hours per academic year. They are strongly encouraged to participate in the Student Interest Group. Simulation activities occur throughout the academic year; instructors are expected to attend curricular events and committee meetings as they arise. Physical Demands Hear and listen attentively in a simulated environment with multiple auditory, visual, tactile, and verbal cues requiring prompt responses. Vision capabilities include close vision and ability to work on computers, interpret computer screens, patient monitors, and read medication and equipment labels. Instructors may be required to stand or sit and facilitate a simulation scenario for up to five hours at a time. In certain events, physicians may perform procedures and participate in clinical maneuvers on mannequins and task trainers. Instructors are required to work a minimum of 25 hours in simulation per academic year with a maximum of 200 hours per academic year. Minimum Qualifications MD or DO. Board Certified. Licensed to practice medicine in Arizona at the time of appointment. Currently in good standing with the medical board of their specialty. Dedicated to the delivery of patient‑centered medicine. Available to work a minimum of 25 hours in simulation per academic year. Individuals who are selected for employment and do NOT currently hold a faculty title with the University of Arizona College of Medicine‑Phoenix will be required to obtain faculty status, including letters of recommendation and review by the appropriate college review committee. Preferred Qualifications Practicing clinician in a medical or surgical specialty that encompasses the content taught in the Simulation Faculty Track. Previous experience with medical student or graduate medical education. Previous experience in teaching simulation. Demonstrates ability to work as a member of the healthcare team, exhibiting skills, communication practices, and behaviors of a team leader. One year of technical experience working in a remote or virtual environment using video‑conferencing software, preferably Zoom. Compensation Hourly rate: $100 per hour.
