Collections Manager

The Ridgefield Historical Society in Ridgefield, Connecticut seeks a part-time Collections Manager to care for, preserve, and share the objects, documents, photographs, and stories that tell the history of Ridgefield. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the behind-the-scenes work of museum collections and the public-facing work of connecting people with local history. The Collections Manager oversees collections records, cataloging, artifact care, storage, digitization, donor acknowledgments, research requests, loans, and the PastPerfect database, while helping ensure that the Historical Society’s collections are documented, accessible, and preserved according to professional museum standards. This position is also an important part of the Historical Society’s community engagement. The Collections Manager manages volunteers and interns of all ages, writes about collection items, supports educational programs, answers public history questions, gives tours and presentations, develops exhibitions, and assists with programs and events that bring Ridgefield’s past to life. We are looking for a friendly, organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative person who is comfortable working with technology, collections, volunteers, donors, researchers, visitors, and community partners in an active and welcoming environment. An interest and understanding of Ridgefield’s history and a Bachelor’s degree in Public History, Museum Studies, or a related field with collections management experience is preferred. Part-time, 21 hours per week (Tue, Wed, Thur 10am-5pm), at the Scott House at 4 Sunset Lane in Ridgefield, CT. $25 per hour, occasional weekends, evenings, and other days as needed.
