CNC MACHINIST I-2nd Shift

Primary Summary Operates machines with computer controls that use single or multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock and completes tool changes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Remove and replace dull cutting tools. Mount, install, align and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Operate machines to produce production at expected levels. Understand tool geometry and tool path. Read and understand the basic layout of CNC programs. Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures. Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems. Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or change tooling, setup or work piece placement per required machining sequences. Shadow and assist onboarding team members. Read blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number or parts to be formed and tooling instruction on type tooling required. Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follow safety regulations. Lifts work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes. Utilize calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools to perform inspection and ensure conformance to dimension and tolerance levels. Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) and verify part samples to blueprint specification; make adjustments to the process as required. Follow all 5S department procedures, keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organizing part pans, and performing housekeeping duties. Attend all required job‑related training (internal and external). All employees are responsible for complying with rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE procedures, attending required training, and reporting any non‑conformance to management. Continuously seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results. Recognize cosmetic non‑conformances such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, or dimensional changes and initiate action to prevent non‑conformance. Suggest waste elimination initiatives, such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste. Other duties may be assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibility. At least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer Skills Knowledge of basic computer mainframe systems and data entry, familiarity with spreadsheet and word processing software. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; read and interpret documents such as safety rules and maintenance instructions; effectively present information in one‑to‑one and small group situations. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts. Reasoning Ability Application of common sense to carry out detailed but routine instructions and solve problems involving a few concrete variables. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR. Physical Demands Employee must frequently stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Environment, Health and Safety Employee frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles; noise level typically loud. Must wear personal protective equipment in specified areas. Health, Safety and Environment Responsibilities Respect and enforce health, safety, and environmental instructions and rules. Immediately correct or report any malfunction or risky situation to superiors or HSE department. Implement preventive actions to reduce environmental footprint and control health and safety risks. Participate in HSE working groups and analyses of risks and incidents when requested. Familiarize with site HSE policy and objectives.
