At Blue Onyx, we are out to empower the people who produce with easy-to-own integrated automation solutions. To help us grow, we are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and bring to life the electrical and software systems behind every automation solution we build.

\n

In this role, you will design electrical systems and controls, program the PLCs, HMIs, robotics and other higher-level software that drive them. You will see each build through from concept to power-up — partnering with engineering, assembly, and technicians to make sure every system we ship meets our quality and performance standards.

\n

\n

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

\n

•     Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, robotics, control devices and other higher-level software applications that run our automation systems.

\n

•     Preform in-house testing on systems to validate against project specifications, own the system through FAT, on-site startup and SAT.

\n

•     Design electrical systems, schematics, and drawings (SolidWorks), and translate mechanical designs (SolidWorks) into electrical and pneumatic requirements.

\n

•     Develop and maintain electrical bills of materials, standards, and documentation, including user manuals and engineering documents for the systems you build.

\n

•     Review, repair, and modernize legacy code and control systems.

\n

•     Check the quality of assembly and technician work and respond to questions during the build.

\n

•     Partner with engineering, sales, and project teams on quote preparation, design reviews, and project design and implementation.

\n

•     Provide timely, detailed status updates throughout each project.

\n

QUALIFICATIONS AND ROLE EXPECTATIONS

\n

•     BA/BS in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

\n

•     3+ years of experience in the automation industry (5+ years and a BSEE preferred).

\n

•     Experience with Rockwell PLCs and HMIs, Siemens experience is a plus.

\n

•     Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.

\n

•     Familiarity with Vision Systems, Motion Controllers/Actuators, and UL/CE industry standards.

\n

•     Skilled at troubleshooting control system issues, with a creative, detail-oriented approach.

\n

•     Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project; excellent written and oral communication skills.

\n

•     A self-starting, organized problem-solver who can see a design through to completion and has a desire for continuous learning & development.

\n

•     Willingness to travel for onsite project work.

\n
