Use hand-welding to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products in a production welding atmosphere. Job Essentials Mig Welding for Scaffolding Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, shielded metal arc, and resistance welding. Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers. Chip or grand off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment. Weld Components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Weld tubular products individually or with a partner. Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Education Requirements High school diploma or GED preferred. Vocational training, welding certification, or technical education is beneficial. Experience Requirements MUST have own welding helmet Must be able to pass a welding test prior to starting the job. Experience performing MIG welding on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or other metals. Ability to read blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings. Knowledge of welding equipment setup, welding techniques, and safe operating procedures. Ability to accurately measure, fit, and prepare materials prior to welding. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in manufacturing, fabrication, structural welding, or production environments is preferred. Experience using grinders, saws, cutting equipment, and metal fabrication tools is beneficial. Knowledge of weld inspection, blueprint interpretation, and quality control procedures is considered an asset. Individuals who demonstrate craftsmanship, dependability, and a commitment to continuous improvement are well positioned for success as a Mig Welder. Physical Capabilities Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in welding positions throughout the shift. Ability to lift metal components, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely wear welding helmets, gloves, and required personal protective equipment. Ability to safely work around welding equipment, sparks, heat, and fabrication machinery while following established safety procedures.
