Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and gain hands‑on clinical experience. All NVA hospitals provide a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, and conduct diagnostics. Assist in dentistry services and observe or assist in surgical procedures. Participate in medical management of patients. Practice and improve communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externship Details Duration ranges from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at State Street Animal Clinic are designed for clinical year students. Housing may be available for out‑of‑town students. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend of $1,000 at State Street Animal Clinic.
