Ultrasound Technologist (Inpatient)-Full Time Weekends

Job Summary This position is accountable to prepare patients and perform routine ultrasound procedures in accordance with provider orders, the procedure manual, and exam protocols under supervision of a Radiologist. The Ultrasonographer produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with appropriate comparison studies and other exam results or pertinent information to the Radiologist for interpretation. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by confirming provider orders, verifying patient identities, obtaining medical histories, and ensuring the appropriateness of examinations for timely accurate diagnosis. Performs ultrasound examinations/procedures on all patient age groups and clinical conditions, maintaining clinical and technical competency as evidenced by completion of an annual Competency Based Orientation Tool. Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective departmental operations and quality patient care. Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of ultrasound services/operations. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors; disinfects equipment and ultrasound probes according to MWHC and proper infection control standards; adheres to standard precautions at all times. Effectively interacts with students, consistently providing supervision and instruction; supportive of MWH School of Radiologic Technology and the ultrasound cross‑training program. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure continued availability and non‑interruption of services. Reports, records, and files patient information and procedural data to accurately document department operations and facilitate timely accurate billing for services. Participates in performance improvement activities for the Ultrasound department. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Completion of an accredited ultrasound program or MWHC/MIF cross‑training program, or twelve months relevant experience. AHA BLS Provider required. ARDMS (AB, OB/GYN, or VT) or ARRT (S) required at time of hire; if not ARDMS (OB/GYN) registered at hire, registry required within twelve months with first attempt to pass OB/GYN registry within six months. Preferred registries: Abdomen (AB), Vascular (VT), and Pediatric Sonography (PS). ARRT (R) registered in Radiologic Technology preferred. Three years relevant experience preferred. Experience with applicable EMR, Radiology, and information systems preferred. Required Physical Requirements Constant (67‑100% of workday) use of arms and hands. Frequent (34‑66% of workday) standing, walking, sitting. Occasional (0‑33% of workday) bending and squatting. Ability to lift 35 lbs.; push and pull up to 20 lbs. Auditory and visual skills to include color determination. Mental Requirements Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi‑task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards Risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. For MRI Associates: Must complete MRI Associate screening and be approved to work in the MRI environment (Zones 3 & 4) at all times.
