Inspect and test the accuracy of large-capacity scales, including vehicle, livestock, hopper, warehouse, and forklift scales Operate test equipment associated with the test unit Drive the scale test unit to inspection sites Enforce Georgia weights and measures laws and related regulations Test, inspect, and determine the accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices Investigate consumer complaints related to weights and measures Prepare documentation related to inspections and complaint investigations Perform price verification inspections by confirming marked prices against scanner prices Maintain the State vehicle and all equipment pertaining to the job Work as part of a two-person team Travel overnight occasionally Requirements High school diploma or GED required Minimum qualification: high school diploma/GED and two years of experience in the area of assignment; or two years of college including specified chemistry or life sciences coursework and two years of directly related experience; or two years of experience at the lower-level Agriculture Inspector 2 or equivalent position Three to five years of experience in the area of assignment should qualify for the Agriculture Inspector 2 / RCT041 position Valid Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred; if not held, a valid Georgia driver's license and willingness to obtain a CDL within six months of employment Clean driving record Communication and customer service skills Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions General knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic computer skills Basic mathematical skills Ability to stand for long periods and intermittently walk, squat, kneel, or drive Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods Must reside or be willing to relocate to Alma, Axson, Broxton, Hazlehurst, Jesup, or Baxley, within a reasonable distance of the assigned territory Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in inspecting and testing large-capacity scales while enforcing weights and measures regulations. Proficient in documentation, customer service, and basic mathematical skills necessary for accurate inspections.
