Accountant I - Stem Cell Transplantation

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a dedicated Accountant to support financial operations within [Department information not provided]. The Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial tracking, reconciliation, and grant coordination in a complex research environment. This Accountant position supports faculty, research initiatives, and departmental financial integrity through detailed analysis and compliance oversight.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's level degree or higher, and a strong foundation in accounting principles. Experience with PeopleSoft and proficiency with Epic and Excel are also preferred. Additional consideration will be given to candidates local to the Houston Metro area or surrounding counties.

Position Information
Salary Range: Minimum $53,000 - Midpoint $66,000 - Maximum $79,000
Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM.
Work Location: This is a remote position. Occasional onsite attendance may be expected to support team and business operations.

Responsibilities
Reconciliation

• Ensures timely and accurate expense tracking for all company centers through consistent monitoring of reconciliation reports
• Assumes primary responsibility for reconciliation of all accounts and funds for department and faculty grant accounts
• Processes invoices related to clinical trial agreements and tracks associated payments
• Reconciles research study charges related to clinical trial agreements
• Assists in training new support staff on established reconciliation processes

Grant Coordination

• Provides assistance with quarterly Effort Reports by reviewing budgets, committed effort, and salary for accuracy and compliance with sponsor regulations and institutional policy
• Develops modular and detailed budgets for sponsored project submissions by Principal Investigators
• Coordinates with Principal Investigators and personnel to prepare and review budget justifications for accuracy
• Assists with development and ongoing monitoring of grant budgets

Administration

• Supports administrative planning for department research grant initiatives, including multi-project and core-based grants
• Attends quarterly Financial Review meetings with Principal Investigators as required
• Manages financial tracking of department-wide accounts
• Supports assigned faculty with all aspects of sponsored projects
• Conducts quarterly internal audits of participant gift cards

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Required: Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Accounting or related.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Required: One year Required with degree in Business Administration or related field.
• Required: With a degree in Accounting, no experience is required.
• May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
