Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE) lies at the heart of the Montana Department of Corrections’ Programs and Rehabilitations Division. Whether it’s by herding cattle, working under the hood of a vehicle, crafting custom log furniture, or welding, the men and women involved in MCE programs while incarcerated leave prison knowing their future is as bright as they choose to make it. The Accounting Technician performs accounting responsibilities for all Programs and subprograms within MCE. Accuracy and timeliness of both revenue and payments to vendors are imperative to the continued economic viability and therefore the continuance of the Division and programs. In coordination with other MCE accounting and administration staff, the MCE Accounting Technician helps to coordinate the daily activities of the accounting office. This position trains, supervises, and evaluates the inmate accounting clerks in the MCE accounting office. QUALIFICATIONS The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to: 2 years job-related college or vocational training in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance 3 to 4 years of job-related work experience. Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
