Patient Accounts Representative - Customer Service

Overview Schedule: M-F (Day shift, 8:30am-5pm). On-site during the probationary period until cleared to work remote – employee must reside within the Central Ohio area. Job Description Summary Assists patients and families with billing inquiries, resolves disputes, and collects payments for hospital services. Essential Functions Address concerns and questions and resolve issues and complaints in a timely manner. Communicate with patients to discuss billing questions and payment options. Negotiate payment arrangements and help families obtain financial assistance. Collaborate with collection agencies, insurance companies, and internal departments to collect payments. Process all “Returned Mail” – including skip tracing and contacting doctor’s offices for information. Assist in resolving payer problems and billing and reimbursement issues. Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Education Requirement High school diploma or GED, required. Associate’s degree, preferred. Licensure Requirement (not specified) Certifications (not specified) Skills Knowledge of medical terminology, various claim forms, third‑party contracts and payment patterns, CPT and ICD‑9 coding, and reimbursement regulations and policies of third‑party payers. Ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Knowledge of Healthy Start, BCMH, AEMA and Financial Assistance. Ability to perform data entry and use a calculator. Problem identification and problem‑solving skills are required. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent organization skills and ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions. Experience Four years’ experience in customer service, required. Two years’ experience in medical billing and claims follow‑up, required. One year experience working on a mainframe computer. Experience using Outlook, Word and Excel, required.
