Senior Government Underwriter

Reviewing and evaluating various loan types, the full-time Senior Government Underwriter will assess credit worthiness, ensure compliance with lending guidelines, and manage risk in a remote work environment. Key responsibilities Conduct comprehensive loan file reviews to ensure compliance with secondary market eligibility and assess borrower credit risk Evaluate borrower assets, debts, and income to determine repayment capacity and issue conditional approvals as needed Communicate effectively with loan originators and stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions and maintain current knowledge of industry regulations Required qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred Minimum of 5 years' experience underwriting conventional, FHA, and VA mortgage loans Licenses such as Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA Credit Authority are required Strong understanding of investor, agency, and government guidelines Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
