Salary:

• Engineer III: $98,800 – $133,300

• Engineer III with PE: $108,700 – $146,700

• Engineer IV: $111,400 – $167,100

• Engineer IV with PE: $122,500 – $183,800

About the Opportunity

Sterling Engineering is looking for an experienced Solar Electrical Engineer to join our client's Engineering Services team. This opportunity is available at the Engineer III or Engineer IV level, depending on experience and qualifications.

The engineer will provide electrical design and technical leadership for utility-scale solar collection systems ranging from 90–500+ MWdc. This role will work closely with internal engineering, construction, civil, structural, and substation teams to develop and deliver high-quality electrical designs.

Job Duties

• Provide technical leadership and support for electrical portions of utility-scale solar collection systems.

• Lead multiple PV electrical design projects and coordinate work with engineering team members.

• Coordinate PV electrical design with civil, structural, substation, and other engineering disciplines.

• Provide quality reviews of engineering designs and technical deliverables.

• Develop optimal collection system layouts, considering overhead/underground systems, road crossings, cross-country routing, and junction box locations.

• Review manufacturer data to determine electrical scope, wiring requirements, grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection, and generator outputs.

• Verify construction is consistent with electrical engineering design drawings.

• Lead electrical engineering design through submittals, transmittals, and requests for information.

• Provide technical expertise and support during project execution.

• Assist with technical questions during the bidding process.

• Communicate with owners, vendors, and local utilities to advance electrical design.

• Perform loss calculations, preliminary short-circuit calculations, and reactive power calculations for pursuit-level designs.

• Perform system grounding studies using CDEGS.

• Determine installation details, including conduit and grounding requirements.

• Specify equipment ratings to support procurement.

• Develop one-line diagrams for collection systems and substations.

• Develop standard electrical construction details.

• Work with field teams to identify design changes and opportunities to improve construction.

• Participate in lessons-learned meetings and incorporate improvements into future projects.

• Lead technical discussions related to assigned scopes of work.

• Provide coaching, feedback, and leadership to engineering team members at the Engineer IV level.

• Apply knowledge of NEC, NESC, and IEEE codes and standards.

• Support engineering work, project logistics, and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Experience designing and completing multiple utility-scale solar projects.

• Experience coordinating with civil and structural engineer
