LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS)

Summary You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT/ HAZMAT OPS) in the Navy Fire and Emergency Services for the NB SAN DIEGO. Learn more about this agency Duties Help You will perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or automatic external defibrillation (AED) during respiratory and cardiac emergencies. You will perform a fire protection inspection of a building or storage facility to identify actual or potential fire hazards or fire safety deficiencies. You will lead a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or rescue vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires. You will determine the potential harm of hazardous material to people and the environment. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Must be a US Citizen. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. This position has a maximum entry age of 37. Candidates that will be older than 37 at the time of appointment will require an age waiver. The position often requires irregular hours, shift work, evening and weekend work Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles and associated equipment of significant complexity; 2) Maintaining knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; 3) applying knowledge of facility layouts and the location and operation of alarm/suppression control panels, hydrants, utility shutoffs, and suppression systems. NOTE: This experience must be supported by your resume. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Driver-Operator Pumper, Hazmat Technician Level, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
