Position Summary

The Material Handler I supports production by ensuring materials, components, containers, and supplies are delivered to the correct work areas at the right time and in the right quantity.

This position performs line-side replenishment, moves materials throughout the facility, maintains organized point-of-use areas, supports inventory accuracy, and removes empty containers and material-handling obstacles. The Material Handler I works closely with Materials, Warehouse, Inventory Control, and Operations to maintain safe and efficient material flow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Replenish materials to assigned work cells and point-of-use locations. 
• Deliver the correct material, quantity, and container to the appropriate production area. 
• Move raw materials, components, work-in-process, finished goods, pallets, containers, and supplies safely      throughout the facility. 
• Monitor line-side inventory and respond to replenishment signals and production requests. 
• Follow assigned milk-run, water spider, and material-delivery routes. 
• Remove empty containers, pallets, packaging, and other materials from production areas. 
• Return containers, excess materials, and unused supplies to their designated locations. 
• Verify part numbers, quantities, labels, and material condition before delivery. 
• Report material shortages, damaged materials, incorrect parts, missing inventory, and delivery issues promptly. 
• Retrieve and stage materials from warehouse or supermarket locations. 
• Support cycle counts, inventory investigations, and other inventory-control activities. 
• Maintain clean, organized, and accessible storage, staging, and point-of-use areas. 
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, scanners, and other equipment when trained and authorized. 
• Inspect material-handling equipment and report unsafe or damaged conditions. 
• Follow standard work, 5S practices, Lean principles, PPE requirements, and all plant safety      procedures. 
• Identify opportunities to improve material flow, replenishment routes, storage, and material presentation. 
• Communicate production needs, delays, shortages, and other risks to the Materials Supervisor or appropriate team member. 
• Work effectively with Production, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Planning, Quality, and other departments. 
• Perform other Materials-related duties as assigned. 

Key Performance Indicators

Success in this role includes:

• Production areas receive the correct materials on time. 
• Material shortages caused by missed or delayed replenishment are minimized. 
• Line-side areas remain organized, labeled, and free of unnecessary materials. 
• Material movements and returns follow established procedures. 
• Assigned routes and standard work are completed consistently. 
• Safety, housekeeping, 5S, and material-handling standards are maintained. 

Inventory discrepancies and material-control issues are identified and reported promptly 

Required Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
• Previous manufacturing, warehouse, material-handling, or production-support experience preferred. 
• Ability to follow standard work, material-identification procedures, and inventory-control processes. 
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn scanning or plant inventory systems. 
• Strong attention to detail, organization, dependability, and communication skills. 
• Ability to prioritize work in a changing production environment. 
• Ability to work safely and follow required PPE and plant safety procedures. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Forklift or material-handling equipment certification. 
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kanban, milk runs, or point-of-use inventory systems. 
• Experience with barcode scanners or warehouse management systems. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires frequent standing and walking throughout the manufacturing facility. The role also requires regular use of hands and arms, reaching, bending, stooping, and occasional kneeling or crouching.

The employee may frequently move materials and containers and may be required to lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Heavier materials must be handled using approved equipment.

The work environment may include moderate-to-loud noise, moving equipment, temperature variations, and other normal manufacturing conditions. Required PPE and site safety procedures apply.
