MED‑ACT is Johnson County's 9‑1‑1 EMS and ambulance service provider, serving the entire county and its cities, towns, and unincorporated areas. We have cohesive partnerships with fire departments throughout the county and within the EMS system. We are currently seeking dedicated and highly skilled Paramedics to join our team on a full‑time basis. As a Paramedic at Johnson County MED‑ACT, you will play a critical role in delivering life‑saving care to our community members during their most challenging moments. You will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing advanced medical treatment, and ensuring the safe transportation of patients to medical facilities. Schedule: Modified Berkley, shift work of 24‑hour shifts. Schedule may vary. Application Deadline: We are accepting applications through 11:59 PM August 4, 2026 for our next Clinician Academy. The academy begins September 28, 2026. Licensure Requirement: Applicants must be KS licensed by Friday, September 25, 2026 at noon. If not licensed by that date, candidates must provide MED‑ACT with proof of application to the Kansas Board of EMS, along with a valid out‑of‑state license and/or National Registry certification. Key Responsibilities Safely and expeditiously respond to emergency calls in various out‑of‑hospital settings, including interfacility patient transfers. Maintain scene safety; protect responders, patients, and the public; assume personal risk. Maintain personal, vehicle, and equipment readiness for effective prehospital medical response. Assess patient conditions and administer medical care and treatment in accordance with established protocols. Proficiently perform clinical skills. Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and first responders at the scene and in the hospital. Conduct and participate in training exercises. Ensure thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of patient care. Return to a state of readiness quickly after calls. Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with industry standards. Function effectively as a member of a team. Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Complete administrative tasks by established deadlines. In addition, our Quality Assurance and Education Division staff work closely with the Medical Director’s office to review and improve the services we provide. Job Requirements Minimum Job Requirements High School diploma or equivalent. Current Paramedic certification in Kansas, or eligibility for reciprocity. National Registry is optional. Work twenty‑four (24) hour shifts and up to thirty‑six (36) hours, including weekends and holidays. On‑call/standby work is also required. Biennial Kansas Paramedic recertification at the employee’s expense. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Two (2) years of experience in advanced life support pre‑hospital care is preferred. Johnson County government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Submit and pass a pre‑employment post‑offer drug screen and a physical ability assessment prior to employment. Uniformed MED‑ACT employees must meet Department Policy 501 appearance standards. Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions Ability to see and hear sufficiently for accurate perception of patient condition. Excessive standing and/or walking: 40% of the time. Exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes and/or chemicals, heights, and loud noises. Must lift 230 pounds with assistance and perform CPR. Must work with an OSHA Level C chemical and biological PPE, including protective clothing, powered air‑purifying respirator (PAPR), and chemical protective boots. Required certifications: NFPA 472 Haz‑Mat Awareness Level, OSHA training, NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 within one year of employment. Preferred certifications: NFPA 472 Haz‑Mat Operations Level, NFPA 473 Medical Response to Haz‑Mat Incidents, Disaster Medical Specialist, and Tactical Medicine Certification. Within sixty (60) days of hire, proof of immunization must be submitted for MMR, TDAP, and Varicella or an acceptable exemption. Compensation The 2026 hourly pay rate is $20.63–$30.45, translating to an annual salary of $68,657–$101,338 based on experience. Overtime is built into the 24‑hour shift schedule, and full‑time employees work an average of 56 hours per week. Salary progression follows a 16‑step pay plan.
