Position Summary

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring industrial blending, batching, and packaging equipment used in the production of colored powdered concrete pigments. This role requires operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently, handling and moving large bags and containers of raw pigments and finished product, and maintaining strict quality control standards. The operator works closely with the production team to ensure accurate color formulation and timely delivery of product to concrete pourers and distributors.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation

•       Set up, operate, and monitor blending, mixing, and batching machines according to production schedules and color formulation specifications.

•       Operate conveyor systems, augers, and automated bagging/packaging equipment.

•       Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections; report malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.

•       Adjust machine settings (speed, temperature, feed rates) to maintain product consistency and quality.

•       Clean and sanitize equipment between product runs to prevent color contamination and cross-mixing.

Material Handling & Heavy Lifting

•       Manually lift, carry, and stage 50–80 lb bags of raw pigments and additives throughout the production floor.

•       Use forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move palletized product, bulk bags, and raw material totes.

•       Load and unload delivery trucks; verify incoming shipments against purchase orders.

•       Safely stack and organize finished goods in warehouse storage areas.

•       Follow all safe lifting protocols and use required PPE (back support, gloves, safety footwear) at all times.

Quality Control & Color Accuracy

•       Follow batch tickets and color formulas precisely to ensure consistent, repeatable pigment blends.

•       Conduct visual and instrument-based color checks on finished product; document results in production logs.

•       Identify and segregate non-conforming product; escalate quality issues to the supervisor.

•       Maintain accurate batch records, weight logs, and inventory counts.

Safety & Housekeeping

•       Adhere to all OSHA, company, and facility safety policies including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

•       Wear required PPE at all times: respirator/dust mask, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.

•       Keep work area clean and free of spills, trip hazards, and excess dust accumulation.

•       Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency drills.

•       Report workplace injuries, near-misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

•       High school diploma or GED equivalent.

•       Minimum 1 year of experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing, construction materials, or chemical blending environment preferred.

•       Ability to lift up to 80 lbs repeatedly throughout an 8–10 hour shift and up to 100 lbs occasionally with assistance.

•       Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and perform physical labor for extended periods.

•       Basic math skills for measuring, weighing, and verifying batch quantities.

•       Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.

•       Ability to read and follow written work instructions, batch tickets, and safety procedures.

•       Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work in a team-oriented production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

•       Experience in concrete products, pigment manufacturing, or dry mix/powder blending operations.

•       Familiarity with color measurement tools such as spectrophotometers or visual color matching.

•       Prior experience with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or ISO quality systems.
