ABT Accounting is seeking an experienced Tax Preparer with strong knowledge of individual income tax preparation and bookkeeping.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently with tax returns while also understanding the bookkeeping and financial records behind the return.

We are looking for someone who understands that tax preparation and bookkeeping work together. The right candidate should be able to look beyond simply entering numbers into a tax return and understand the financial information supporting those numbers.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Prepare individual federal and state income tax returns
• Review client tax documents for accuracy and completeness
• Identify missing information and follow up with clients as needed
• Understand and review bookkeeping records, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports
• Assist with bookkeeping cleanup and reconciliation when necessary
• Review QuickBooks records and identify discrepancies
• Work with W-2s, 1099s, Schedule C businesses, rental income, deductions, credits, and other common individual tax matters
• Maintain accurate client files and documentation
• Communicate professionally with clients regarding tax and bookkeeping questions
• Meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality of financial information

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience preparing individual tax returns
• Solid working knowledge of bookkeeping
• QuickBooks experience strongly preferred
• Understanding of basic accounting principles
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to research tax questions and recognize when an issue requires further review
• Excellent communication and client-service skills
